A Christian Private School

A Christian Upper Secondary School

Our goal is to be an inclusive Christian upper secondary school, a place which cares for all the different needs of the individual, and a place of mental and spiritual development. We offer a wholesome and safe learning environment, with room for personal development, progress and well-being. While Danielsen Videregående Skole is a school with long traditions, we also wish to provide education with a view to the future.

We want to be a school were young people thrive – both academically, personally and spiritually in the light of God’s love.

Academic Programme
Danielsen Videregående Skole offers an education in both General Studies and Healthcare, Childhood and Youth Development. Students can also obtain a general university and college admission certification by continuing with the supplementary course after two years of vocational studies.

A Christian School
The Schools is based on a Christian world view, with a Christian perspective on human life. We wish to offer our students an academically sound education, while at the same time letting them experience the Christian faith during their day-to-day lessons and through other activities at school. Occasionally, the whole school will meet up for a social gathering. At Danielsen, Christianity is a core subject for all students at level VG1 and VG2. The school wishes to communicate a Christian set of values, but is also respectful of the individual’s right to his or her own faith and convictions. We see it as important that the word of God is allowed to shine through in everyday life, which is why we start every school day with a short devotional. We see each individual human being as precious, and we wish to provide the love, care and support that he or she needs. Together, we wish to create an inclusive community which stimulates the students both academically and spiritually.

Our Logo
The logo of Danielsen Videregående Skole is inspired by Daniel the Prophet. The lions in our logo are there to remind us of when God rescued Daniel from the lions’ den and from the king’s death warrant.

Ownership
Danielsen Videregående Skole is part of the Egill Danielsen Foundation, established in 1932. The foundation council is appointed by the Norwegian Lutheran Mission and the Norwegian Home Mission Society.

Locations

Right In the Middle of Bergen
Danielsen Videregående Skole is located in a historical building in Nygaten, right in the middle of Bergen. From the school, there is a 5 minute walk to Bystasjonen and Torgallmenningen Common.

Great Locations
The school was completely refurbished and the premises expanded a few years ago. Today, the school is housed in a modern building with attractive and airy classrooms.

Healthcare, Childhood and Youth Development

Are You a Caring Person?

Does helping others bring you joy? Do you like caring for children, the elderly, people who are ill, disabled or in a difficult situation? If so, Healthcare, Childhood and Youth Development is the study program for you. This study area forms the basis for further VG2 and VG3 studies in Health, Childhood and Youth Development.

At level VG2, we offer the program areas Child Care and Youth Work, and Health Work. You can also obtain a general university and college admission certification by completing a supplementary course.

General Studies

Danielsen Videregående Skole offers General Studies programmes at levels VG1, VG2 and VG3.

In the General Studies programme area, you can choose to take the common core subjects, or choose one of our special study programmes: the Research Programme focusing on natural sciences and mathematics or the KRIK specialisation in recreational sports.

Supplementary studies

You can also take a supplementary course to obtain general university and college admission certification after two years of vocational studies.

A Range of different Programs

The school has five General Studies forms for each level. In this way, we are able to offer the students a comprehensive and varied range of program subjects.

Sister Schools in the US

Every year, up to 30 Danielsen students go to the United States to spend their VG2 year at one of our sister schools. Danielsen Videregående Skole collaborates with two schools in the United States:

Hillcrest Lutheran Academy
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy

Research Program

The Research Programme encourages pupils to show an interest in natural sciences through exciting research projects and a good learning environment. The programme subject technology and theory of research in VG1 focuses on theory of research and explorative work methods. The research pupils go on a study trip to Odda in VG1 and other local excursions.

Mathematics R1 and VG1

The school offers the course Mathematics R1 at level VG1 for students who have completed Mathematics 1T during lower secondary school. This implies that a student can take Mathematics R2 during their VG2 year, and thus finish this course one year early. They are then free to study other subjects in more depth during their VG3 year, and perhaps take University courses in collaboration with the University of Bergen.

KRIK specialisation

The KRIK specialisation is an in-depth specialisation within the programme subject recreational sports in VG1. A good community and learning environment is created through many excursions and physical activity.
